Tax Credit PDF Print E-mail

The recently announced federal tax credit program represents a significant opportunity in today's challenging market. Many window companies use more expensive and confusing means of meeting energy tax credit requirements. We make it easy to select windows that meet the energy tax credit requirements, without mixing and matching components from a confusing list of options. We make qualifying simple. Most Milgard Tuscany™ replacement windows* with 3D MAX™ energy package qualify for this tax incentive. This means easier choices for you. Ask for a complete list of qualifying products.

*With the exception of Tuscany Double Sliders

Here's how the new federal tax credits can benefit you.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (part of the Economic Stimulus plan) modifies and extends federal tax credits for "qualified energy improvements," which include windows and doors.

  • The new tax credits are for 30% of the cost of the eligible product up to an aggregate limit of $1500 for tax years 2009 and 2010. Other qualifying home improvements (such as siding or roofing) are eligible for these tax credits so act now to take full advantage of this opportunity.
  • Qualifying replacement windows and doors must have both a U-Factor of .30 or lower and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of .30 or lower.
  • The good news, this is a tax credit which means you can actually receive an additional $1500 on your tax return. A tax credit increases a refund or reduces the dollar amount if taxes are owed. This in comparison to a tax deduction where taxable income is merely reduced by the amount of the deduction. The tax credit is real money in your pocket.

Take away: Many people may be considering replacing their old windows, but the uncertainty of the economy makes them hesitant to do so. This tax credit can help you feel confident that this is the right time to replace your windows. This tax credit puts money in your pockets. For example if a homeowner calculates their taxes and they are set to receive $1000. But then, if they qualified for the full credit they will receive an additional $1500. Increasing their total refund to $2500.

No one else makes it this easy to qualify for up to a $1500 tax credit.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 gives lots of qualifying options for receiving tax credits.

  1.
    1. Confirm that the replacement windows or doors you select meet the requirements for the program. Also, we will provide you with the segregated product cost as the tax credit is the cost of the product only.
    2. Make sure you purchase and have your new windows or doors installed between February 18, 2009 and December 31, 2010.
    3. Save the following with your tax documents:
      • Sales receipts.
      • Each replacement window or door NFRC/ENERGY STAR™ label.
  2. Easy ways for you to improve the look and value of your home.
    • You will be impressed with the wide array of styles you can choose from.
    • According to Milgard. Milgard Tuscany vinyl replacement windows give customers a 93% return on their investment (ROI) in Western states (the nationwide average ROI is nearly 80%).*

Not only does an investment in Milgard windows and doors pay you back now with a tax credit, it pays you back when you sell your home. And that's not even factoring in possible energy savings.

  3. Easy-to-understand all-inclusive energy packages.
    • If you go to other window dealers, you will hear a lot of confusing energy jargon. Not with us. We make understanding energy efficiency easy with the all-inclusive energy packages.
    • Other window companies use more expensive means of meeting the requirements. Milagrd's 3DMAX energy package technology is at least 20% discount over purchasing the individual components alone.
    • Our replacement windows with 3D MAX (with the exception of Double Sliders) meet — or exceed — the federal energy efficiency requirements to receive the tax credit.**
  4. Easy for a lifetime.
    • Our replacement windows come with a Full Lifetime Warranty the includes glass breakage, for as long as you own and reside in your home. For complete warranty details visit milgard.com

***Home builders are eligible for a $2000 tax credit for a new energy efficient home that achieves 50% energy savings for heating and cooling over the 2004 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and supplements. At least 1/5 of the energy savings must come from building envelope improvements. This credit also applies to contractors of manufactured homes conforming to Federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards.

Please note that, with the exception of the tax credit for an ENERGY STAR qualified manufactured home, these tax credits are not directly linked to ENERGY STAR. Therefore, a builder of an ENERGY STAR qualified home may be eligible for a tax credit but it is not guaranteed.

These tax credits apply to new homes located in the United States whose construction is substantially completed after August 8, 2005 and that are acquired from the eligible contractor for use as a residence from January 1, 2006 through December 31, 2009.
